Kelso is a 133-acre, sheltered lake near Forest Center with extensive shallow, weedy bays that provide excellent fish habitat. The lake reaches 16 feet deep and offers three campsites. Access is via an easy 13-rod portage from Alton, which also connects by open water. Northern pike, rock bass, white sucker, and yellow perch are present in these productive waters.
