Gillis is a 616-acre lake near Grand Marais featuring mostly deep, open water with a maximum depth of 180 feet. Seven campsites are available. Access is via the easiest 23-rod portage to French (easy carry) or longer routes to Bat (24 rods), Fern (27 rods), or Crooked (88 rods, moderate). The lake connects by open water to Crooked and Fern. Fishing opportunities include burbot, lake trout, white sucker, and yellow perch.
