Shell is a 493-acre lake near Crane Lake with extensive shallow, weedy bays that provide productive fish habitat. The lake has 10 campsites and supports bluegill, largemouth bass, northern pike, rock bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, white sucker, and yellow perch. Access is via the 33-rod easy portage to Heritage or the strenuous 222-rod portage to Upper Pauness. Open water connects Shell to Heritage, Little Shell, and Thumb.
