Nels is a small, sheltered 182-acre lake near Ely with a maximum depth of 30 feet. The lake offers three campsites and supports a diverse fishery including walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and panfish. Access is via a challenging 162-rod portage from Erickson. Nels connects by open water to Erickson, First, and South Hegman lakes.
